READ: Celebrating the 40 years since the passage of the Federal Fair Housing Act and the 15th anniversary of the Miami Valley Center's fight for Fair Housing.
What is fair housing? People often earnestly ask that question. Perhaps it's easiest to start by understanding what fair housing is not. Fair housing is NOT whether or not your landlord makes repairs on time, eliminates pests, or charges a fair amount of rent. Instead, fair housing deals with illegal housing discrimination and essentially means that it is the law in the United States not to allow housing discrimination based upon race, color, religion, sex, national origin, familial status (having children under 18 in your home), or disability (handicap).
Fair Housing Statement:
We are pledged to the letter and spirit of U.S. policy for the achievement of equal housing opportunity throughout the Nation. We encourage and support an
affirmative advertising and marketing program in which there are no barriers to obtaining housing because of race, color, religion, sex, handicap, familial
status, or national origin. No Pets* indicates that although the advertiser does not accept pets, in accordance with Fair Housing laws, service and/or companion
animals are permitted, when properly requested by those disabled individuals who need them.
All real estate advertised herein is subject to the federal Fair Housing Actt, which makes it illegal to advertise any "preference, limitation or discrimination because of race, color, religion, sex, disability (handicap), familial status or national origin, or intention to make any such preferences, limitations or discrimination." We will not knowingly accept any advertising for real estate which is in violation of the law. All persons are hereby informed that all dwellings advertised are available on an equal-opportunity basis. If you believe your fair housing rights have even violated or you would like more information in fair housing and your rights, contact the Miami Valley Fair Housing Center at (937) 223-6035 or visit one of the following web sites.
